Subject: 01/27/94 - The National Midnight Star #863 ---------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 26 Jan 94 21:12:14 -0500 From: junoks@sage.cc.purdue.edu (Julie Oneida) Subject: rockline You know, I was intending to call but I couldn't find any stations that had it. And this time I actually checked, unlike that album preview thing. I was going to say something like this: "Hi I'm Julie Oneida of the National Midnight Star internet mailing list, and I'm asking a question on behalf of the whole list. A lot of us seem to find all kinds of symbolism in your liner notes and stuff, and we were wondering if it's meant to be ther, or if it's completely accidental, or if you guys know that we look for it and therefore put stuff in just to confuse us." I also had a special message for Geddy: "Vous etes beau comme un cygne, et avez le voix d'un angel." If you don't know French, and if you care what it says, have a friend decipher it for you. I refuse to repeat it in English because it would be embarrassing. And no it's nothing sexual. :^) BTW, how come you all call them "boyz" yet everyone on irc insists that 40 is too old for me? Just wondering. Blessed be, Juno (aka Julie Oneida) `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` ` "To the beautiful and the wise, the mirror ` \ / ` ` always lies." A few quotes: "an air of joie de vivre > (joy of living)" F10, "thrill to be alive" PM. Also TSS is > wanting to stop and look around before time runs out, L&K is > wanting to stay alive, and Tai Shan and High Water are about > just feeling the life within you. I think you've got this all wrong, Juno, and I wish I could remember where I'm backed up on this. The theme of HYF is not being alive, it is nature. This is supported in almost all the songs, but particularly in Force 10 (the whole hurricane motif), Time Stand Still ('turn my back to the wind...'), Second Nature (the title), Tai Shan (the mountain), and finally, and especially "High Water" (the whole song, from the title to the lyrics to the general theme inherent). I believe that this theme (nature) was stated by Neil in some HYF-era interview, but I'm not sure which one. I *am* sure that the theme is nature, though. >Do you think I'm off my nut (or bolt) ? We *know* you're off your nut (whatever that means) :) >BTW, how come you all call them "boyz" yet everyone on irc insists >that 40 is too old for me? Just wondering. Why do you have to bring up the #p/g! channel again? Watch your words, not 'everyone insists' that, only a select handful of people. [ Come on Mike, be nice. Everyone here should be happy to be in #p/g! and talk about it, I don't see any harm in it. Just no insults, no flames and we'll all be happy eh? :-) :rush-mgr ] >From: hartman larry >Subject: CP binary >I didn't know that anyone had settled on what the binary code was on the back >of the CP cd. Now the mystery is finally solved!! Can anyone else see this too? If I may say so, this is a bunch of bull. *I* personally tried to transcribe the binary during one rain delay in the World Series (way back then) and it came out to NOTHING. Complete and total jibberish. Nice try, though, Mr. Yoho... One other thing, rush-mgr. Instead of compiling a list of questions for use when NMS'ers try to dial Rockline, why don't you just send out the FAQL again a few days before hand, and say "Don't ask any of these questions." [ I think the problem here is the callers into Rockline are usually not NMS people, or do not have a copy of the FAQL, much less net access. I would like to get submission to me, I will try and compile a list of the *best* submitted questions and hopefully we can call in and put one across. More news on this idea in a later digest. :rush-mgr ] Seeya in NYC, DC, Philly, and Pittsburgh! (and on #p/g!)
